Paschal Moon

Easter
that moveable feast
follows the first
full moon
after the first day
of Spring

like the eager children
in their Sunday best
scurrying about
a sweet scavenger hunt
gathering colored eggs
and copious candies

Us?
Well
We played War
at my grandparent's house
on Snake Pond
Easter Sunday
after the squirmy service
with its coin races
along the pew

Smash your cornflower blue best
onto
another's
hapless sunflower yellow orb
held tight in their grip
like tradition

The one whose egg
remained unbroken
wins

and on and on it goes
gorging
 salted stained
hardboiled
eggs
all day long

Indeed
a moveable
feast

  1. Nice use of Hemingway as a gateway; Ernest would’ve approved.
