NaPoWriMo - End
April 30, 20230 Comments

Once again

an untimely end

to familiar intention

an ember

abandoned

in the ash

the question

will you return

again

once

again

still

burning

deep

in all my black

Sole Searching - Day 6
April 06, 20230 Comments

Souls

sought

 in surveys

and glossy mag quizes

Seeking a sense of self

scattered about in

star charts

tea leaves

and a tossed bit of bone

how easy

to follow the flying monkey

madness

slumber in a sea

of red poppies

startle

awake

in snow

when

all the answers

to all the questions

before you

within you

are beneath you

just

refuse

ruby sparkle

Mourning Pages - Day 5
April 05, 20230 Comments

I am haunted

memories like voices

fill

this empty space

where my heart leaches out

onto ivory parchment

too consumed

with terror

that my words

would spill

over the edges

unable to sop up

the gush of grief

disintegrating

all  remaining

form

skin

and

bones

to

pulp

grief

my ashen

remains

Dirty Dishes - Day 4
April 04, 20230 Comments

Nothing comes to the surface

so I seek

beneath the greasy suds

wrist deep in the weeks worth

of dirty dishes

for any

crystal inkling

reaching

grasping

gripping

an oil slick

serrated

steel

smile

in my palm

I close my hand

imbruing the water

with sanguine swirls

saponifying my mind

Rumi in Reverse - Day 3
April 03, 20230 Comments

Ostentatious in their silence

the mooncalf and the mountebank

heavy with an unmasked intention

where is the light of the void

Come closer

careen over the edge

Echo your screams

in the light

of

the void

NaPoWriMo 2023 Day 3

*Based on prompt to take a poem and write it in the inverse sentiment

I selected this gem from Rumi

Secretly we spoke,
that wise one and me.
I said, Tell me the secrets of the world.
He said, Sh… Let silence
Tell you the secrets of the world.

Rhinoceros - Day 2
April 02, 20230 Comments

Is there anything more obvious

than a rhinoceros

hovering

weightless

above

my mind space clouds

The elephant

in the room

disregarded

like a  thirty year old

 Ikea bookshelf

it bows

to its obligations

waiting

for the day to come

when that next best thing

saddles up against the horsehair plaster

in a proud display

of power

Question is

which will give first

tired and strained

particle

board

or

the willingness

to make change

come through the door?

So I keep

close company

with the rhinoceros

while he watches

and

we

wait

the splintering

crack

of time

collapsing

tumbling all to dust

Pull Me Under
April 01, 20231 Comments

Give in

flood the edges

the scraped up utterances

waters urges upwards

against

an almost

it is almost

enough

to quench

long parched

edges sun scalded

skin scraped

It is a mystery

how a point

long dulled

still opens

a merry

sanquine river

bleeds out

the lie

I tell my self

National Poetry Writing Month - The Beginning
April 01, 20230 Comments

It is time...

As the winter gives way to spring
while brave blooms begin to pierce the crisp and crystallized soil

Words will wander onto the page...

Today marks the beginning of the National Poetry Month and as part of this I will be writing a poem a day for the next 30 days.
Here will be my words - unedited, sometimes rushed, often forced and just maybe, if the muse is kind, beautiful....

Join me on my poetic exploration of  all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities:

nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect
